Face Claim:
Mentality:
Lionel Waldorf is enriched by discussion with and observation of people. With a healthy understanding that most are looking out for themselves, he does believe that most people are good and will help others if they can.
He is prone to suffering from hallucinations of god-like beings. This is caused by an unexplained illness he had as a child. He was sick and feverish and thought beyond help until he eventually pushed through. These hallucinations regularly convince him that he is special, that there is something about him that is Great or even Godly. The hallucinations are rarely debilitating and he has learned to control them as he has gotten older.
Perhaps a delusion, perhaps a nurtured trait, or perhaps another not-yet-understood illness is Lionel’s hyper empathy. It allows him to deeply understand the motives and feelings of others. It is something he feels great pride about, a reason he sees his mentality towards humanity as superior. This is a blessing and a curse, however, as it can cause him great pain in combat situations as well as in times of great grief and suffering.
History:
Born to a pair of anthropologists, Lionel has from a young age understood the ins and outs of medium to large scale human collaboration. Educated not in top schools, but in many different and diverse schools across the world, he was uniquely qualified to take to the stars and document humanity's travels. His knowledge of language also made him a qualified candidate for deciphering code or alien languages. Generally likable and makes a good impression, however, forming long term intimate relations is difficult.
After his education he worked various odd jobs to round out his jack of all trades mentality including factory quality assurance, public relations for public figures, and archive maintenance.
Lionel’s first job after he finished school was in manufacturing. During his time working in a fully automated injection molding factory, Lionel spent much time alone. Actual work was rare, and when problems did arise, solutions were quick to be found. This solitude gave Lionel time to think about what he wanted to get from, and give to, the world. He realized he would do best working with others, doing his part in the great struggle of the progress of mankind.
His first foray into an interpersonal field was as a campaign advisor for a small-scale senator in his home province. This work rounded out some of Lionel’s public image abilities. He learned how to frame people and ideas any way he wanted, regardless of their inherent value or virtue. In short, he learned to appeal to persuasive weak spots.
His later position, as the archivist of mankind’s largest library, is what made him a desirable choice for the Prometheus Project. Lionel’s education was often spent writing for historical or linguistic journals, so he was already quite experienced and high profile in the world of record keeping. When the Prometheus Project began bringing people on-board, Lionel chosen quickly, as even the early stages of development were to be well-documented.
Additional Medical Information: Lionel has poor eye-sight, to the point of being almost blind, if not for combination cybernetic and mechanic glasses.
Writing Submission:
This early populace of Prometheus still felt like a patchwork. Everyone feels cobbled together, Lionel thought. The people identify as their home culture, or as members of the Federation Army. But this was starting to break.
Lionel left his bed and stepped outside. Amazed by the progress that had been made in such a short time, he decided to take a moment to soak it in. Maybe he would draw the scene later, though he wasn’t much of an artist. The green-ness pervaded his mind, until another seed of an idea sprouted.
Thus far, all communication with the Petalians had been done through an automatic translation device. This device allowed for a new type of cultural diffusion so far unheard of by any human social scientists. But if there was to be a new culture, one equal parts man and alien, would there, too be a new language?
Perhaps an amalgamation? Lionel realized that one had already been forming, as the translation machine was not perfect, there were idioms and turns of phrase and words that had no direct translation. These fractures left room for new words, new concepts to influence and be influenced by the meeting of the minds occurring here. The future seemed bright and interesting.
